Bulb Information

Light Source: 8V 20W bulb with a B15d/18 double contact bayonet base — internationally known as BA15d. The glass envelope is approximately 21mm in diameter and 58mm long. It runs off the viewer's built-in step-down transformer.

Finding Replacements: The base is a standard international fitting, not a Soviet-only one, so there is no need to modify the socket or rewire anything. Bulbs of the same 8V 20W BA15d specification are commonly used in microscope illuminators and are stocked by microscope and laboratory bulb suppliers worldwide — searching for "8V 20W BA15d" will bring up options. When ordering, do check the glass dimensions, as larger envelopes of the same base will not fit the housing.

Please stick to 8V. The transformer is not voltage-regulated. A 6V bulb of the same base will fit and light up but will burn out quickly, and a 12V one will be noticeably dim.

A note on LED: We don't recommend LED for this viewer, and it is not a drop-in swap. The optical system is built around a small filament sitting at the focal point of the condenser lens, and an LED spreads its light differently — the usual result is a bright center with dark corners on the screen. The original bulb type remains the best match for the optics.

Condition

This Kupava S8 editing viewer has been serviced and is in good working condition. It shows minor traces of previous use, but all functions operate properly. Cleaned and tested before listing.
